Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. I hope it gives you a little slice of my life and somehow captures the passion I carry in my heart for Jesus, my family and families in general (especially those with teens in them!) I am a wife, mom, Christian counselor, speaker/trainer and a budding writer. Almost every one of those roles somehow involves teenagers. Unlike many people, I happen to think teens are fun to be around. Even though teenagers (mine included) can be awfully difficult at times, I believe they’ve been given a really bad reputation! They can be the most authentic and enjoyable people, especially in a world where people take themselves way too seriously. How do I know this? Well, I have been happily counseling adolescents and their families for over two decades AND I am parenting two teenagers and one young adult of my own.

As a counselor, speaker and writer I am passionate about encouraging and equipping parents and professionals to walk purposefully and lovingly alongside adolescents as they trek toward adulthood.  Despite the heartache, confusion, demands and stress associated with the adolescent years, this decade in development has the potential to be an incredible season of transformation and rebirth for an individual.  Those of us who have the privilege to raise or work with teenagers have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on a child because of all that is occurring internally during this season of life.

My blog LIFEgivingSTREAMS was born out of this desire to offer weekly encouragement to those who are daily living out the call to walk beside a teenager.  In this blog you will hear my mother’s heart as I use God’s word to encourage and refresh you on your journey through the week.  Since I am raising three teenagers as well, I write out of my own experience as a Christian mother, seeking the Lord to do the very best to live out His will in my life so that I can glorify Him and love others well. I also write a monthly column entitled, “Day In and Day Out” in Sophie Magazine (a regional magazine for women). In the last few years, I have tried to take some of my teaching material and turn it into a book for parents of teens. Recently, I was offered a publishing contract for a book that is tentatively titled, The Heart Cry of Every Teen. I am hoping it releases in late 2016 or early 2017. Writing is hard work.

I also regularly teach workshops and seminars for schools, churches, parenting groups and other organizations that focus on families or teens. I typically integrate the many counseling insights I have gleaned with biblical truths and principles. I am also a regular speaker with the Polished Conference, a ministry to moms and daughters. For more information about their mission and the partnership I have with them, visit the Polished Conference website. Click on the Speaking tab on this website to view the list of workshops I can offer your group or organization.  Click the Contact tab if you have any questions or would like to discuss some options for your group.

I hope you feel refreshed and renewed as you read my blog or attend one of my seminars. My prayer  is first that you are most satisfied in a relationship with Jesus Christ. Beyond that, it is my sincere hope that the teens in your life will be powerfully affected by the streams of living water flowing out of you and onto them.

They say that who you marry is one of the most important decisions of your life.  I couldn’t agree more! I am proud to be married to John Perry. He is an amazing man who adds wisdom, balance and leadership to our family. As a woman of Colombian descent, let’s just say that I can get worked up on occasion. I affectionately refer to John as “my balloon man” who patiently pulls the strings back to earth when the balloon (me!) starts to float off into nowhere land. I am thankful that we are still madly in love with each other, even after twenty four years of marriage. Together we have three children who bring adventure, chaos and deep delight into our home each and every day. We are thankful that they are good friends who genuinely enjoy each other even when we are not around. As a family we love to hike, bike, sit by an outdoor fire, skip rocks in a creek anywhere in North Carolina or just hang out in an Eno somewhere in the woods.

My husband, a former baseball player at Duke University, is on a mission to take our kids to all 30 major league baseball stadiums. We have three more left to visit (Miami, Minneapolis and Phoenix).
